An early migrant from China to Singapore, W.S. Hoong was well versed in the art of seal engraving. As a testament to his art, three of his seals can be found printed on the Singapore currency. Humble and reclusive, Hoong belongs to the old school of artists, who are passionate about their art but modest about the limelight. This book is a posthumous tribute to the artist, compiled by Lianhe Zaobao journalists. Comprising some of the most memorable works from Hoong's massive collection, many of these seals were only rediscovered after his death in 2005.

Reminiscences of the Straits Settlements through Postcards

The images in this compilation were featured in the exhibition, Reminiscences of the Straits Settlements through Postcards, a first-ever collaboration between the National Archives of Malaysia and the National Archives of Singapore. More than 100 postcards take the reader back to life in Penang, Singapore and Malacca at the turn of the late 19th and the early 20th centuries. They document the numerous similarities in the political entity known as the Straits Settlement but better known today as independent Singapore and part pf the nation of Malaysia. Supporting archival records include maps, building plans and documents. These images are a fascinating record of a shared vanished lifestyle and a good reminder of the close historical links between the two nations.
